Mapo-gu held an event on the eve of the Maponaru Shrimp Festival at Red Road in Hongdae on the afternoon of October 17th.
The Salted Shrimp Festival Eve Festival was held for the first time this year and was planned to be held at Red Road in Hongdae, where 52% of foreigners visiting Korea visit, to actively encourage tourists and local residents to participate in the festival.
The eve ceremony opened splendidly with a traditional chwita band, pungmul band, and a colorful promotional parade starting at 17:00. In addition, in the ‘Red Road Foreign Talent Show’ corner, participating foreigners showed off their hidden talent and passion by singing, dancing, and playing musical instruments.
At 19:00, an all-night concert and DJ festival featuring singer Ahn Seong-hoon, Seven Earth, Dignity, and other buskers were held, increasing the excitement of the event and making the Shrimp Festival more widely known.
On this day, Mapo-gu Mayor Park Kang-soo said, “I am very happy to announce the start of the Salted Shrimp Festival, which will be reborn as a world-class festival on Red Road, a street loved by people around the world.” He added, “This year, everyone can enjoy not only high-quality salted shrimp from all over the country, but also the Hyodo Table Marathon and street yoga.” “We have prepared a program that can be enjoyed, so we ask for your interest and participation,” he said.
