Hyundai Motor has announced the opening of its second mobile hydrogen charging station, the "H Jeju Moving Station," located at the Carbon Free Island (CFI) Energy Future Center in Jeju Island. This marks the company’s second mobile hydrogen charging station in South Korea, following the launch of the "H Guangjin Moving Station" in Seoul in October 2022. Notably, the Jeju station is the first in the country to operate on green hydrogen.
The H Jeju Moving Station is a 25-ton Hyundai Xcient truck equipped with essential facilities such as hydrogen compressors, storage tanks, coolers, and charging equipment, allowing it to function as a mobile hydrogen refueling station. According to Hyundai, the station can charge up to 20 Nexo fuel cell electric vehicles at a time, providing each vehicle with approximately 2.5 kilograms of hydrogen. To ensure efficient charging, the maximum charging rate per vehicle is limited to 50%.
Hyundai plans to leverage the H Jeju Moving Station, powered by green hydrogen from the Jeju Hangwon Wind Farm, to expand the adoption of hydrogen-powered vehicles, including rental cars, in the Jeju region.
"Jeju is at the forefront of carbon neutrality in South Korea, and its focus on green hydrogen aligns perfectly with our vision," said a Hyundai Motor spokesperson. "We expect this station to play a crucial role in expanding the hydrogen ecosystem."
