Mar del Plata, Argentina – The municipality of General Pueyrredon has announced the suspension of afternoon and evening classes in all educational institutions in Mar del Plata this Friday. This decision comes in response to a severe weather alert, predicting intense storms for the region, following the devastating storm that recently struck the city of Bahía Blanca.
Mar del Plata is bracing for severe weather, prompting local authorities to take extensive precautionary measures. The city, which has already experienced recent storms and localized class suspensions, is now preparing for a potentially more significant weather event.
Rodrigo Goncálvez, Secretary of Security, announced the measures at a press conference, warning of a "severe" meteorological phenomenon expected to arrive in Mar del Plata from 6 PM. The forecast includes heavy rainfall, strong winds, and the possibility of hail.
The municipality is prioritizing public safety by suspending afternoon and evening classes, canceling mass gatherings and sporting events, and advising businesses and residents to take necessary precautions.
The severe weather alert follows a devastating storm in Bahía Blanca, where heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding and required the evacuation of numerous families. The National Ministry of Security has mobilized resources to assist with the emergency response in Bahía Blanca.
As the region prepares for the impending storm, local authorities are urging residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
