Chungnam Province held the "2026 Mental Health Day Commemoration Ceremony and Symposium" on October 14 at the Monavalley Gold Hall in Asan, with approximately 150 participants, including related organization officials and local residents, in attendance.
This event was organized to commemorate Mental Health Day by honoring individuals who have contributed to the promotion of community mental health and by discussing changes and response directions in the mental health field brought about by the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology.
Under the message, "Chungnam's New Mental Health Connection: Moving Beyond Data Toward People," the event was conducted in two parts.
The first part began with a classical performance by the Narae Ensemble, followed by a commemoration ceremony where commendations were awarded to four individuals and two organizations dedicated to community mental health development, recognizing their hard work and dedication.
In the second part, the symposium featured expert presentations and discussions under the theme, "Mental Health in Chungnam in the Age of AI and Digital Technology."
Attendees explored the possibilities of using AI and digital technology for mental health prevention, early intervention, risk prediction, and improved service accessibility. They also engaged in in-depth discussions on practical tasks to ensure that technological advancements lead to an enhanced quality of life and improved mental health.
Furthermore, participants formed a consensus on the necessity of a "people-centered mental health policy" that goes beyond simple technology adoption—one that meticulously monitors residents' conditions based on data and connects them with necessary services in a timely manner.
Kim Eun-sook, Head of the Mental Health Division, stated, "The core of AI and digital technology lies not in the technology itself, but in how precisely we use it to connect residents with the services they need. Keeping pace with the rapidly changing environment, we will actively introduce data and technology while always building a Chungnam-style mental health policy and service that puts people at the center."
Meanwhile, the province continues to implement various customized programs centered around mental health welfare centers, including improving public awareness, enhancing service accessibility, and early detection and support for high-risk groups.
If you are struggling emotionally, you can reach the Mental Health Counseling Center at 1577-0199, or if you are going through a difficult time in life, the Suicide Prevention Counseling hotline is available at 109, providing 24/7 counseling 365 days a year.
