Chungnam Province announced on the 14th that it will co-host the "10th Chungnam International Carbon Neutrality Conference" with Cheonan City and the international non-profit organization Climate Group at Sono Bell in Cheonan on October 21–22.
This year's conference will be held under the theme "Subnational Leadership, Corporate Foresight: Pathways to Carbon Neutrality."
The conference will bring together around 500 participants, including Governor Park Soo-hyun, National Climate Crisis Response Committee Chairperson Lee Chang-hoon, Cheonan Mayor Jang Ki-soo, representatives from the Embassy of the Philippines in Korea, the Director-General of the Qinghai Provincial Ecological Environment Department in China, and Lodz University of Technology Rector Krzysztof Jóźwik, along with international organizations, governments, domestic and foreign local governments, experts, businesses, residents, and civil society representatives.
At the event, the province plans to explore ways with attendees to proactively respond to international climate regulations and enhance the global competitiveness of local businesses through cooperation.
A promotional booth featuring 20 local climate-tech companies will showcase various technologies, such as streetlights utilizing renewable energy and water electrolysis hydrogen utilization technology.
A provincial official stated, "Taking this conference as an opportunity, we will lead the energy transition together with the international community, businesses, and residents," adding, "We will create practical results that enhance the competitiveness of local businesses by proactively responding to international climate regulations."
Meanwhile, since its first conference in 2017, the province has continued discussions to realize carbon neutrality under themes including coal phase-out (2017–2020), carbon neutrality (2021–2023), and industrial structure transition (2024–2025).
