LG and NVIDIA Forge "Physical AI" Alliance to Lead Future Robotics and AI Infrastructure

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo and NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang met at NVIDIA’s headquarters to sign a landmark strategic partnership. This collaboration, which follows their initial discussions in Seoul this past June, signals a shift from planning to concrete, large-scale execution in the field of Physical AI—the integration of AI into the real, physical world.
1. The Dawn of LG’s Humanoid Robot
The crown jewel of this partnership is the development of a next-generation bipedal humanoid robot, scheduled for public unveiling in the first quarter of 2027. This robot will serve as a reference model, demonstrating how hardware and software can be perfectly synchronized.
The "Brain": The humanoid will utilize NVIDIA’s Jetson Thor robotics processor for real-time onboard inference and motion control. It will be powered by the Isaac GR00T general-purpose foundation model, which allows the robot to perceive, reason, and execute complex, multi-step tasks. To ensure operational safety, the platform will integrate Halos for Robotics.
The "Body": LG is leveraging its diverse technological ecosystem to construct a high-performance physical frame. LG Electronics will supply the actuators, LG Innotek will provide the advanced sensing technology, and LG Energy Solution will deliver high-efficiency battery power.
Before the humanoid’s debut, LG plans to deploy its wheeled "LG CLOiD" robots in its Tennessee washing machine production line by the end of 2026 to refine real-world data collection and operational efficiency.
2. Scaling AI Factories: The Cheonan Project
LG is set to become a significant player in the AI infrastructure market by utilizing NVIDIA’s DSX architecture. The roadmap begins with a reference site in 2027 based on NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform, culminating in the construction of a massive 80MW AI factory in Cheonan, South Korea, by the first half of 2028.
Efficiency via Modularization: The Cheonan facility will adopt a "prefab" modular construction method, which LG estimates will reduce building time by over 20%.
A "One LG" Package: This project serves as a showcase for a comprehensive solution bundle—encompassing cooling (LG Electronics), power (LS Group), and design/operation (LG CNS & LG Uplus). LG intends to use this proven model to aggressively compete for AI data center contracts from global big tech firms.
3. Next-Generation AI-Defined Vehicles (AIDV)
The partnership extends into mobility, where LG aims to pivot from its traditional focus on infotainment toward full-scale autonomous driving. By integrating LG’s automotive software and infotainment capabilities with the NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion platform, the companies will develop a high-performance computing (HPC) system for "AI-Defined Vehicles." This allows LG to offer global automakers a production-ready, highly sophisticated autonomous driving compute platform.
A Shared Vision for the Future
Chairman Koo Kwang-mo emphasized the speed of the collaboration, stating, "As our cooperation gains momentum, the tasks we must tackle together in AI factories, physical AI, and mobility have become clear. We will accelerate the adoption of AI by building industry-leading reference projects."
CEO Jensen Huang echoed this sentiment, highlighting the synergy between the two companies: "We are combining LG’s leadership in product engineering and manufacturing with NVIDIA’s technology to usher in a new era of robotics, AI factories, and autonomous vehicles."
The establishment of a joint task force comprising technical and business experts from both sides ensures that this partnership will remain highly focused on rapid innovation and commercialization, solidifying the roles of both LG and NVIDIA as leaders in the rapidly expanding Physical AI economy.
