SACHEON, South Korea — The Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA), the nation’s primary government body for space and aeronautics, has officially appointed the legendary K-pop group BIGBANG as its inaugural honorary ambassadors. This strategic partnership, announced on August 14, 2026, marks a significant effort to bridge the gap between complex aerospace science and the general public.

Since its establishment in May 2024, KASA has been tasked with spearheading South Korea’s ambitious space roadmap, which includes lunar exploration missions and the development of next-generation launch vehicles. By bringing in BIGBANG, an act known for their massive domestic and international influence, KASA aims to make the "Space Era" more accessible and relatable to citizens of all ages.

A Shared Journey into Space

"We selected BIGBANG as our ambassadors to advance South Korea’s new aerospace challenges together with the public," said KASA Administrator Oh Tae-seog. He noted that the group's global reach and cultural impact would be instrumental in fostering a nationwide consensus on the importance of space exploration.

The members of BIGBANG expressed their enthusiasm for the role, stating that participating in a new chapter of Korea’s space history as the first ambassadors is a profound honor.

The "Dream Capsule" Project

The partnership's first major initiative is the "Dream Capsule Project," which will coincide with the 5th launch of the Nuri rocket (KSLV-II), scheduled for the second half of 2026. This project is designed to transform a technical milestone into a collective national experience.

KASA is inviting citizens to submit messages of hope and dreams via their official website and social media channels. These messages will be digitally stored and carried into space aboard the Nuri rocket. To commemorate their participation, citizens will receive a digital "boarding pass" symbolizing their seat on the mission. Additionally, BIGBANG’s dedicated fandom, V.I.P, has been provided with a special micro-website to participate in the event, celebrating the group’s 20th anniversary alongside the country’s technological progress.

Why This Matters

South Korea’s aerospace ambitions have grown rapidly in recent years. With the goal of landing a homegrown spacecraft on the Moon by 2032 and missions to Mars by 2045, KASA is working to build a sustainable industry. By leveraging popular culture icons like BIGBANG, the agency is not just promoting policies; it is cultivating a generation of future scientists, engineers, and enthusiasts who feel personally connected to the nation's journey toward the stars.

As the launch window for the 5th Nuri mission approaches, the collaboration between KASA and BIGBANG is expected to keep public momentum high, ensuring that every launch serves as a reminder of South Korea’s growing capabilities in the global space race.
