As part of a regional coexistence project, Gangwon State (Governor Woo Sang-ho) announced that, in collaboration with Lotte Mart/Super and Haitai Confectionery, it will release the "Gamjajeon-flavored Saengsaeng Potato Chip" (hereinafter referred to as "Gangwon Potato Chips") featuring the provincial characters Gangwoni & Teukbyuri starting October 15. Following last year's corn-flavored Saengsaeng Potato Chip, this second edition will be distributed and sold through nationwide retail networks.
The Gangwoni & Teukbyuri Gangwon Potato Chips are produced by Haitai Confectionery, which procured fresh potatoes from local farms, developed a gamjajeon (potato pancake) flavor recipe, and produced 180,000 bags at its Munmak plant in Wonju. The product will be distributed and sold across Lotte Mart, Lotte Super, and Seven-Eleven convenience stores nationwide, which is expected to boost the recognition of the characters "Gangwoni & Teukbyuri."
Locally Produced Fresh Potatoes: 70 tons of Seolbong potatoes procured from local farms, including Pyeongchang-gun.
Nationwide Distribution Network: 106 Lotte Mart branches, 350 Lotte Super stores, and Seven-Eleven convenience stores.
Sold in specially designed independent potato chip displays themed "Gangwoni's Potato Market," the gamjajeon-flavored potato chips will be showcased alongside other major Haitai Confectionery products made from local potatoes (such as Honey Butter Chips and Salmon Sushi flavor) through promotional discount events, presenting the diverse flavors of Gangwon potatoes.
In addition, based on a fun 3D animation video featuring the story of how gamjajeon turns into a chip, Gangwon State, Lotte Mart, and Haitai Confectionery are collaborating on online and offline promotions through social media channels, YouTube, and electronic billboards to spread the savory goodness of the Gangwon Potato Chips.
Kim Young-ho, Spokesperson for Gangwon State, stated, "The release of these Gangwon Potato Chips achieves a 'two birds with one stone' effect by purchasing local agricultural products and promoting the provincial characters." He added, "We will continue to strengthen Gangwon State's brand competitiveness by developing and launching collaborative products incorporating our characters."
