Science and Art Academic Seminar to be Held on July 24… Major Domestic Experts Participating
The Daejeon Museum of Art (Director Youn Eui-hyang) will host an academic seminar on "The Inflection Point of Science and Art: Curating and Practice Beyond Standards and Specifications" from 2 PM to 4 PM on the 24th at the museum's auditorium.
This seminar is being held in anticipation of the 2026 Daejeon Science Art Biennale, aiming to explore new possibilities for exhibitions created by the fusion of art and science. In particular, it is expected to be a venue for reinterpreting existing concepts of ‘standards’ and ‘specifications’ and seeking directions for creative curating and exhibition practices.
The seminar is co-hosted by the Daejeon Museum of Art and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science & Creativity, with active curators, researchers, and critics from the exhibition field participating to share their vivid insights.
The first session will feature Hong Ra-dam, Curator at the Daejeon Museum of Art, introducing the biennale's planning direction. Following this, Lee Jin, Curator at the Seoul Museum of Art, will present on "Reconstructing the Standard of Science and Art Through Exhibition," and independent curator Park Je-eon will present on "Nomadic Curation Reconstructed Through Digital Media."
Professor Kang Hyun-wook of Mokwon University will speak on "A New Order of Science and Art Read Through Media and Criticism," and visual culture critic Yu Mi-ju will present on "Intuiting Invisible Data: For a Critique of Absence." The presenters will share insights from various perspectives on the current status and future directions of science and art.
After all presentations, a free discussion involving experts and citizens will be led by Park In-hye, Researcher at the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science & Creativity. The addition of citizen participation to the creative discussions unfolding at the intersection of science and art is expected to heighten anticipation for the biennale.
Director Youn Eui-hyang stated, "We are preparing for the 2026 Daejeon Science Art Biennale to establish itself as an international platform that leads the convergence of science and art, beyond Daejeon itself." She added, "We ask for your great interest and participation."
This event is open to everyone without prior registration.
