Chungcheongnam-do and its expatriate residents expanded the scope of their exchange and cooperation by sharing their hometown's history and culture together.
On the 24th, Chungcheongnam-do Governor Park Soo-hyun attended the "2026 Expatriate Residents' Day Event and Communication Festival for Expatriate Residents' Exchange and Cooperation," hosted by the Chungnam Development Association at the historic Haemi Eupseong area in Seosan.
With around 1,100 people in attendance—including Governor Park, Seo Hyo-seok, President of the Central Association of Chungcheong Residents; Lee Myung-beom, President of the Central Association of Chungnam Residents; Chae Hee-sung, President of the Incheon-Chungnam Residents Association; and expatriate residents—the event featured tours of Haemi Eupseong and the Haemi International Shrine, pre-show performances, and the awarding of citations to persons of merit.
During the event, provincial governor citations and other honors were presented to nine exemplary expatriate association members who contributed to the development of local communities.
Additionally, participants experienced the history and culture of their hometown through tours of Haemi Eupseong and the Haemi International Shrine, as well as a walk around the Seosan Korean Beef Ranch, while taking time to share warmth with the local community and strengthen their bonds.
Through this event, the province plans to vitalize exchanges between expatriate residents and the local community while broadening the foundation for cooperation.
The province intends to maintain continuous communication with expatriate residents to foster their participation and cooperation for hometown development, thereby spreading community values that connect regions and people.
At the event, Governor Park first expressed his gratitude to the members of the Chungcheong Residents Association who have contributed to hometown development through community service and hometown love donations. He emphasized, "We will add even greater pride to the phrase 'My Hometown, Chungcheong-do.'"
Governor Park continued, "As the head of the Chungcheong Metropolitan Alliance, we will pool the capabilities of the four cities and provinces to move beyond past underdevelopment and marginalization, creating a 'second capital region, the Chungcheong region.' I hope our expatriate residents will serve as the focal point in making Chungcheong a single living and economic zone, and uniting 560 million [Note: 5.6 million] Chungcheong citizens into a single community." He added, "Just as you have brought brilliance to Chungcheong abroad, I will put all my effort into growing Chungcheong's pride right here in our hometown."
