KAIST and University of Leeds International Students Participate in the Hanhyujin Program

This program, themed "Global Youth, Immersing in the Korean Spirit," was designed to allow foreign participants to directly experience and empathize with various activities that modernize Confucian culture, which is inherent in the daily lives and emotions of Koreans. Through this, the program provided an opportunity for participants to grow closer and communicate beyond cultural differences.

Participants engaged in diverse experiences, including: viewing the Hanhyujin special exhibition "Every Moment" to compare Eastern and Western philosophies of time; practicing self-cultivation and showing courtesy to guests (tea ceremony experience); feeling the beauty of Korea with their fingertips (Korean calligraphy experience); "Mapping the Challenge"; and a participant感想 presentation and discussion session. They spent a meaningful time vividly experiencing Korean culture and respecting each other's cultures.

One participant shared their thoughts, saying, "I thought I knew Korea to some extent by encountering K-culture, but experiencing it directly, I could feel the politeness and consideration naturally embedded in Korean culture." They added, "I want to express that the reason Korea has been able to establish itself as a global cultural powerhouse through K-culture is because the warm heart and sincerity derived from Confucian culture are alive at its roots."

Director Jung Jae-geun stated, "I hope this program has been a meaningful occasion for foreign participants to directly experience the Korean spirit and empathize with the values of Confucian culture contained within it." He added, "Moving forward, we will continue to actively convey the charm of Korean spiritual culture through ongoing exchanges with young people from around the world, and expand a platform for genuine communication based on mutual understanding and respect for cultures."

This program is part of the Institute of Korean Confucian Culture's regional coexistence and global Confucian culture dissemination projects, and it operates year-round with customized programs not only for international students but also for foreign residents in Korea.
