Seoul, South Korea – The Hanwha Classic series is bringing two of Europe's most renowned early music ensembles to Seoul. The Berlin Academy of Ancient Music and the RIAS Kammerchor will perform at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall on November 23rd and 24th.
Founded in East Berlin in 1982, the Berlin Academy of Ancient Music has established itself as one of Germany's leading early music ensembles. The RIAS Kammerchor, celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, is a 34-member choir renowned for its interpretations of Renaissance and Baroque music. Notably, Korean soprano Kim Mi-young and tenor Hong Min-seob, both permanent members of the choir, will be joining the performance.
Both ensembles have garnered critical acclaim for their recordings of Bach and Handel, winning prestigious awards such as the Grammy, Gramophone, and Diapason d'Or. The Seoul performances will feature works by these composers, including Handel's "Dixit Dominus" and Bach's "Magnificat," both of which were recently released on the harmonia mundi label.
Since 2013, the Hanwha Classic series has been introducing Korean audiences to the world of early music, presenting performances by renowned artists such as Helmut Rilling. The upcoming concert featuring the Berlin Academy of Ancient Music and the RIAS Kammerchor is expected to be a highlight of the series.
