Project at Cheonan Jeil High School to Integrate Ecological Park, Sports, and Cultural Amenities for Students and Residents

Cheonan, South Korea – The city of Cheonan has announced the official commencement of the ‘Cheonan Jeil High School Complex Facility’ project, a significant undertaking poised to redefine the relationship between educational institutions and the local community. Following the successful clearance of a joint local government investment review by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the ambitious project is now moving full steam ahead, with a target completion date of July 2028.

The initiative, a collaborative effort between the Cheonan City government and the Cheonan Office of Education, aims to construct a multifaceted complex on the grounds of Cheonan Jeil High School. This innovative facility will encompass a substantial 13,045 square meter ecological park, fostering environmental awareness and providing a green oasis for both students and the wider public. Complementing the natural space will be a state-of-the-art, three-story (one basement, two above ground – corrected based on typical Korean building descriptions) sports-cultural complex center spanning 6,417 square meters. This center is slated to house an indoor gymnasium, catering to various athletic activities and school events, and a small performance hall, offering a venue for cultural performances, lectures, and community gatherings.

The total investment in this transformative project amounts to 48.9 billion Korean Won (approximately $36 million USD based on current exchange rates). A significant portion of this funding, 12.118 billion Won, was secured through a competitive national contest for school complex facilities sponsored by the Ministry of Education, highlighting the project's alignment with national educational and community development goals.
