On March 11, 2026, the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in Hungary (Director: Yoo Hye-ryung) and the Korean Food Promotion Institute (Chairman: Lee Kyu-min) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Hungary to promote the globalization of Hansik (Korean food). This agreement is significant as it establishes a practical cooperation framework aimed at expanding the local foundation of Hansik and strengthening its status within the European culinary market.
The agreement is not a one-off event but rather an extension of several years of ongoing collaboration. Last year, the two organizations held a commemorative event for the inscription of Korea’s "Jang" (fermented pastes) making culture onto the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list, which received an enthusiastic response from local Michelin-starred chefs, Hansik instructors, and major media figures.
The KCC in Hungary is cementing its role as a central hub for the spread of Korean cuisine. Among the cultural courses currently offered, Hansik classes are the most popular, with 10 classes consistently maintained by local instructors.
"This strategic cooperation, starting here in Hungary, will serve as a new turning point for Hansik to become a daily dining option in the European gourmet market," said Director Yoo Hye-ryung. "We plan to further expand our collaboration with local chefs and Hansik experts following this agreement."
