BRUSSELS, Belgium – Kim Kyeong-hyup, Commissioner of the Overseas Koreans Agency (OKA), is currently visiting Belgium as part of President Lee Jae-myung’s official European tour.
During the visit, Commissioner Kim attended a deeply moving gathering with Korean adoptees who have successfully integrated and thrived as proud members of their local society despite facing unfamiliar environments. Local adoptee organizations have been actively strengthening ties to their homeland by fostering adoptee networks, hosting Korean language classes, promoting cultural exchanges, and supporting efforts to find birth families in Korea.
"Hearing their stories was truly touching," Commissioner Kim stated. "The Overseas Koreans Agency is fully committed to supporting them on this journey of connecting with their roots."
Following this meeting, a Diaspora Luncheon and Town Hall was hosted by President Lee. Commissioner Kim expressed immense pride in the Belgian-Korean community, praising them as "economic trailblazers, civilian diplomats, and cultural ambassadors of the Korean Wave (Hallyu)."
The OKA actively collected valuable feedback and recommendations from the attendees during the meeting. Commissioner Kim promised that upon returning to Korea, the agency would thoroughly review these suggestions to deliver concrete solutions and improvements for the diaspora community
