A special venue for artistic communication in honor of a master of Latin American contemporary art

The Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in the Republic of Korea, in collaboration with the Latin American Cultural Center Museum, is set to host a special exhibition to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of the internationally acclaimed master of kinetic art, Carlos Cruz-Diez. Born on August 17, 1923, Cruz-Diez left a distinct mark on the history of modern art through his artistic language of color and light. This exhibition promises to be a unique opportunity for Korean audiences to experience his original artistic world and to delve into the depth and diversity of Latin American contemporary art.

Opening Ceremony and Exhibition Content

The exhibition will officially open on September 11 at 3 PM at the Latin American Cultural Center Museum in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province. The opening ceremony will feature various programs to celebrate Cruz-Diez's artistic legacy and explore his body of work.

The exhibition was directly curated by the Carlos Cruz-Diez Museum of Printing and Design in Caracas, Venezuela. It will not only showcase the representative works of Cruz-Diez but also feature pieces by several contemporary Venezuelan artists who have reinterpreted his work through their own unique perspectives. Visitors will have the chance to directly experience the shifts in perception and visual resonance created by the interplay of color, light, and movement.

The Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela shared the following message regarding the exhibition:

Educational Programs and Cultural Significance

During the exhibition period, an ‘Educational Workshop for Children’ will be held every Saturday at 2 PM. The program, which lasts approximately one hour, includes a museum tour and a hands-on art activity, offering children an educational opportunity to directly experience color and art.

This exhibition not only commemorates Cruz-Diez’s “philosophy of light and color” but also conveys Venezuela's cultural message of seeking social inclusion and change through art. This event, which revisits the artistic spirit of a global master, will be a meaningful occasion for meeting the new values of Latin American contemporary art in Korea.
