Seoul Namsan National Gugak Center's resident company, Pansori Ajit Noraebakx, will present its new production, Pansori Short Stories II: Maupassant Edition, from November 21st to 23rd at the Crown Haitae Hall in Jung-gu, Seoul.
This performance marks the second installment in Pansori Ajit Noraebakx's short story series, which has been exploring the diverse possibilities of pansori since its formation in 2021. In this production, three pansori performers - Lee Yerin, Lee Seungmin, and Hwang Jiyoung - will reinterpret Guy de Maupassant's short stories, "The String," "Sergeant Tua," and "Bed Number 29," blending Maupassant's delicate realism with the unique excitement and emotion of pansori.
Director Park Inhye shared, "By capturing the essence of short stories, we have depicted various aspects of human life in both beautiful and sorrowful ways. We hope that by viewing Maupassant's stories through the eyes of pansori performers, the audience will ponder the question, 'How should humans live?'"
Pansori Ajit Noraebakx has been pioneering new possibilities for pansori by reinterpreting the traditional art form's inherent theatricality and acting techniques in a contemporary manner. This performance is expected to provide a unique and moving experience for the audience through the intriguing fusion of pansori and literature.
Founded in 2021, Pansori Ajit Noraebakx is a creative group that has been exploring the diverse potential of pansori.
