DAEJEON — The city of Daejeon is set to become the epicenter of global short cinema this weekend as the 4th Daejeon International Short Film Festival (DISFF) kicks off at the Daejeon Expo Citizen's Plaza. Running from August 30 to 31, the festival promises to be the largest in its history, showcasing a diverse collection of independent films and a star-studded lineup of events.

Under the leadership of Organizing Committee Chairman Park Chun-ja and Executive Director Bae Ki-won, the DISFF has received a record number of submissions—over 600 films from 14 different countries. From this impressive pool, 44 films have been selected for free public screenings, making the festival an accessible and engaging cultural event for all citizens.

The festival's opening ceremony, hosted by honorary ambassador Lee Chae-yu, is scheduled for the morning of August 30. The event will roll out the red carpet for filmmakers and fans alike, with special appearances by actors Jang Tae-hoon, Kim Tae-hwan, and Ha Joon. The day's festivities will also feature a blend of music and art, including performances by soprano Lee Yeon-ja and the Korea Senior Model Association. Later that afternoon, a unique "film and music collaboration" stage, hosted by MC Cheon Sang-wook, will delight audiences with performances by the Baroque Wind Orchestra and fusion Gugak group Granada.

The festival concludes on August 31 with a closing ceremony hosted by honorary ambassador Jung Jin-ok. The final evening will be a celebration of cinematic and musical artistry, featuring farewell performances from singer-songwriter J. Hamilton, baritone Cho Byung-joo, and musical actor Park Ji-hyun.

Executive Director Bae Ki-won expressed his aspirations for the festival, stating, "This year's festival is a testament to the global nature of short filmmaking. It is a valuable opportunity for Daejeon to affirm its identity and play a significant role in the international film community." Chairman Park Chun-ja echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the committee’s commitment to delivering a "rich and fruitful" experience for all attendees. The DISFF is poised to be a landmark event, cementing Daejeon’s reputation as a burgeoning hub for creative and independent cinema.
