Daejeon, South Korea  – The Korea National Railway (KNR) announced today that it held a training program for railway officials from El Salvador regarding the ‘Feasibility Study Project for the Pacific Railway’.

The Feasibility Study Project for the El Salvador Pacific Railway is an initiative funded through Official Development Assistance (ODA) from the South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The project aims to assess the viability of constructing a railway line spanning approximately 150 kilometers from El Salvador’s capital, San Salvador, to the Pacific coast. The training program, held from April 6th to 11th, saw the participation of four officials from El Salvador’s Ministry of Public Works, Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (MOPTVDU).

During the program, hosted at KNR’s headquarters in Daejeon, the Salvadoran delegates received comprehensive briefings on South Korea’s national railway policies and significant construction achievements. The curriculum also included in-depth education on advanced railway technologies such as the Korean Train Control System (KTCS) and the Railway Integrated Wireless Communication System (LTE-R). Furthermore, the participants experienced a ride on the Seoul Metropolitan Area GTX-A high-speed rail line and conducted site visits to the Railway Traffic Control Center and the Sinjeong Rolling Stock Depot.

Alba Nuñez, Director of Cooperation at El Salvador’s MOPTVDU, stated, “This training has provided a thorough understanding of the overall railway infrastructure development process. We hope to establish a strong cooperative framework between our two nations to successfully carry out subsequent projects.”

The successful completion of the feasibility study could pave the way for significant advancements in El Salvador’s transportation network, fostering economic growth and connectivity in the region.
