TAIPEI — The Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency has encouraged Taiwanese to embrace the outdoors during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday by recommending four national forest recreation areas for hiking.
According to Director-General Lin Hwa-ching, "forest bathing" – immersing oneself in the natural environment – can boost immunity and metabolism.
Northern Taiwan: Dongyanshan National Forest Recreation Area in Taoyuan offers visitors a blend of history and natural beauty. With its Japanese cedar and Chinese fir plantations, historic monuments, and even 30-million-year-old fossils, this area provides a diverse experience.
Central Taiwan: Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area in Nantou is known for its stunning autumn foliage and vibrant maple woods. Visitors can also enjoy early cherry blossoms during the holiday season and admire the picturesque Aowanda Suspension Bridge.
Southern Taiwan: Shuangliu Forest Recreation Area in Pingtung offers a unique blend of natural beauty and indigenous culture. With its scenic rivers, waterfalls, and the ruins of a traditional Paiwan tortoise-shell house, this area provides a glimpse into Taiwan's rich history.
Eastern Taiwan: Danongdafu Forest Park in Hualien is a visual feast, especially during the Lunar New Year when the park is adorned with vibrant yellow rapeseed flowers against the backdrop of the majestic Hualien mountains.
The agency advises visitors to check weather conditions and traffic information on the Taiwan Forest Recreation website before embarking on their journey.
