Kumeu Film Studios Opens Korean Branch in Jeonju

Jeonju, South Korea – New Zealand's renowned film studio, Kumeu Film Studios, has officially opened its Korean branch in Jeonju, South Korea. The studio, known for its work on blockbuster films such as "Mulan" and "Avatar," held a grand opening ceremony on November 12th at the The May Hotel in Palbok-dong, Jeonju.
The event was attended by over 80 guests, including Jeonju Mayor Woo Beom-gi and Peter Yu, CEO of Kumeu Film Studios. In his opening remarks, Yu emphasized the significance of Jeonju as a cultural hub and expressed his commitment to making the city a global filmmaking destination.
Located in Auckland, New Zealand, Kumeu Film Studios boasts a massive 271,074 square meter facility, featuring New Zealand's largest indoor underwater dive tank, two sound stages, and extensive warehouse space. The studio has been fully booked for the next decade, catering to major Hollywood studios and streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon Prime.
Jeonju city has been actively working to attract Kumeu Film Studios, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the company in May. To support the studio's establishment, the city plans to provide a suitable location for the construction of a new film studio complex. This complex will include sound stages and outdoor sets, allowing for a wide range of film production activities.
By establishing a presence in Jeonju, Kumeu Film Studios aims to contribute to the growth of the Korean film industry, create new jobs, and attract international productions to the region. Jeonju, with its rich cultural heritage and growing film infrastructure, is poised to become a major hub for filmmaking in Asia.
