Taipei, Taiwan – In a surprising announcement, Carlos Fleitas, the Paraguayan Ambassador to Taiwan, revealed that McDonald's locations across Taipei are utilizing Paraguayan beef in their hamburgers.
Ambassador Fleitas shared this information in a video released by the Paraguayan Embassy, where he can be seen enjoying a McDonald's burger for lunch. "Every time someone in this brotherly country eats this burger, they are eating Paraguayan beef," Fleitas stated, emphasizing the connection between the two nations. He also mentioned that he accompanies his meal with a popular juice from a Paraguayan brand.
According to Ambassador Fleitas, Taiwan has become the second-largest international market for Paraguayan beef, accounting for approximately 12% of Paraguay's total beef exports. 1 Additionally, Taiwan is the largest market for Paraguayan pork, absorbing 87% of total exports, and the second-largest market for beef by-products.
Building on this momentum, Ambassador Fleitas announced that the Paraguayan Embassy, in collaboration with the Paraguayan Meat Association, the Paraguayan Embassy in Japan, Senacsa, and Rediex, will be hosting the "Paraguay Meat Night" event in Taipei on February 24th and 25th. This event aims to attract business leaders from Taiwan and Japan. "We hope that Taiwan will provide the impetus for Paraguayan products to enter other Asian countries," Fleitas emphasized.
This revelation highlights the growing trade relations between Paraguay and Taiwan, with the fast-food giant McDonald's playing a significant role in showcasing Paraguayan beef to Taiwanese consumers. The "Paraguay Meat Night" event is expected to further strengthen these ties and promote Paraguayan meat products in the broader Asian market.
