Seoul, South Korea – Japan has emerged as the most popular overseas destination for South Korean college freshmen embarking on their first post-exam trip, according to a recent survey by Jeju Air. The budget airline revealed that a significant 68.7% of its 2005-born passengers, who traveled between January and February this year, chose destinations in Japan, including Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka.
The airline attributed the surge in popularity to Japan's relatively easy travel conditions. Its proximity to South Korea, diverse attractions, and well-developed infrastructure, including transportation and safety, have made it an appealing choice for young travelers. Tokyo topped the list of preferred destinations, followed closely by Osaka.
Southeast Asian destinations like Cebu in the Philippines and Da Nang in Vietnam also proved popular, offering warm weather during the winter months. Hong Kong and Taipei, known for their diverse culinary scenes, were also favored by many freshmen travelers.
To cater to the increasing demand for overseas travel among South Korean students, Jeju Air is offering a special discount on international flights until August 8th, valid for travel until February 28th of the following year. "We are excited to offer affordable fares and flexible schedules for our young customers, especially for popular destinations like Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong, and Taipei," said a Jeju Air spokesperson. "We hope that our passengers can use this opportunity to unwind and create lasting memories with their friends."
