Seoul, South Korea – Lotte World Adventure, a popular amusement park in Seoul, announced today that it will be discontinuing operations of its iconic thrill rides, the Bungee Drop and the Swing Ride, after more than two decades.
The Bungee Drop, introduced in 2000, was a thrilling drop-type ride that catapulted riders 32 meters into the air at speeds of up to 72 kilometers per hour. Its unique three-stage ascent and descent sequence made it a favorite among adrenaline junkies. Initially located indoors, the ride was later relocated to the outdoor Magic Island in 2006, becoming a cornerstone of the park’s high-altitude thrill rides.
The Swing Ride, which debuted in 2002, offered a different kind of thrill. Riders were seated in leaf-shaped chairs suspended from a 12-meter-tall mushroom-shaped structure that spun at high speeds. The ride’s dynamic movement created a sensation of weightlessness and provided breathtaking views of the park.
Over the years, both rides have set numerous records. The Bungee Drop operated an estimated 1,034,000 times over its 24-year lifespan, covering a distance equivalent to climbing Mount Everest more than 11,000 times. The Swing Ride also made its mark, completing approximately 795,000 cycles in its 22 years of operation, a distance that could take a spacecraft to the moon and back twice.
Collectively, the two rides have entertained an estimated 42.42 million visitors. To commemorate their closure, Lotte World Adventure is hosting a “Goodbye Magic Attraction” event from today until February 2nd, inviting guests to share their memories of the rides on social media.
“We are grateful for the countless memories created on these beloved rides,” said Kwon Oh-sang, CEO of Lotte World. “While we say goodbye to these attractions, we are committed to providing our guests with new and exciting experiences that will create lasting memories.”
