Incheon, South Korea – The long-awaited resumption of the regular car ferry service between Incheon, South Korea, and Dandong, Liaoning Province, China, is set to take place in mid-April, according to the Incheon Port Authority. This marks the end of a 2-year and 10-month suspension that began in June 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent pier renovations in Dandong.
The Incheon Port Authority announced on March 16th that they have completed a thorough safety inspection of the Incheon Port International Passenger Terminal in preparation for the service's revival.
Dandong Ferry, operated by Dandong International Shipping Co., Ltd., will deploy its 24,748-ton vessel, the 'Oriental Pearl No. 8', for this route. The ship boasts an impressive capacity, capable of carrying 1,500 passengers and 214 TEUs of cargo.
"This resumption will bring the number of regular car ferry routes connecting Incheon and China back to seven," stated Kim Sang-ki, Vice President of Operations at the Incheon Port Authority. "We are committed to ensuring the passenger terminal operates at its best to provide convenient and safe services."
The revival of this route is expected to boost both passenger and cargo traffic between the two cities, fostering stronger economic and cultural ties.
