Montevideo, Uruguay – On Friday, the 15th, the city of Montevideo announced the reopening of the Paseo de los Pescadores, located on the coast in front of Rodó Park, after extensive renovations. The newly renovated space is now known as the Paseo Verde (Green Promenade).
This project was made possible through a partnership between the city of Montevideo and the US Embassy, with the embassy contributing approximately $720,000 as compensation for renovations to its own building.
The newly renovated Paseo Verde is expected to provide a more comfortable and enjoyable space for both citizens and tourists. Key improvements include:
Improved accessibility: The promenade has been expanded and improved to make it more accessible for all citizens, including those with disabilities.
Creation of a Rio de la Plata viewing area: A "urban balcony" has been created, offering a space to relax and enjoy views of the river.
Improved lighting: New lighting has been installed to create a safe and beautiful promenade, even at night.
Expanded green spaces: A variety of plants have been planted to increase green spaces and create a more pleasant environment.
The Paseo Verde is part of Mayor Carolina Cosse's "Late la Rambla" project, an initiative aimed at revitalizing the southern coast, the summer theater, and the surrounding area.
As a result of this project, new traffic lights have been installed, which are expected to improve traffic flow between the coast and Cachai Street.
