Incheon, South Korea – Incheon Metropolitan City announced on Wednesday that it will designate three new honorary road names next year to commemorate the city’s history and notable figures.

The new honorary roads include “Incheon Landing Operation Road,” “Incheon Firefighting Heroes Road,” and “Hwang-eo Manse Street.”

The “Incheon Landing Operation Road” will be designated along the route from Wolmido in Jung-gu to Incheon Station on the Gyeongin Line, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Incheon Landing Operation in 2025. This designation aims to honor the heroes who dedicated themselves to global peace and freedom and to solidify Incheon’s position as a city of world peace.

The “Incheon Firefighting Heroes Road” will be named near the Jeon-dong Fire Station in Jung-gu, the oldest fire station in Incheon, which was built in 1919. This road will pay tribute to four firefighters who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty: Go Yong-mo and Lee Dong-won, who died in a fire in Gwalmyeong-dong, Namdong-gu in 2001; Oh Gwan-geun, who died in a fire in Gajwa-dong, Seo-gu in 2006; and Kim Young-su, who died in a fire in Cheoncheon-dong, Bupyeong-gu in 2012. A naming ceremony for the “Incheon Firefighting Heroes Road” will be held on November 9th, Fire Service Day.

“Hwang-eo Manse Street” will be designated in Gyeyang-gu, the starting point of the independence movement in Incheon, where hundreds of people participated in the March 1st Movement during a market day.

Prior to this announcement, Incheon had already designated 13 honorary roads, including Choi Ki-sun Road, named after the first democratically elected mayor of Incheon who initiated the Incheon Free Economic Zone; Ryu Hyun-jin Street, named after the famous baseball player; and Lee Seung-hun Peter Road, named after the first Korean to be baptized.

“Honorary road names serve as a bridge to remember and carry on the legacy of our society’s heroes and values,” said Incheon Mayor Yu Jeong-bok.
