Gyeongsangbuk-do’s largest book festival with local residents held at the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Library

The Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Library (Director Park Se-jin) hosted the "2026 GyeongBOOK Festival" on Saturday, September 19, around the provincial library grounds under the theme "Open a Book, Connect Gyeongbuk!"

Now in its 4th year, this event is Gyeongbuk’s premier reading culture festival where all generations communicate through books and share the joy of reading.

Starting with the pre-opening performance "Beaver Teacher's Puppet Show & Cotton Candy Show" at 10:30 AM, the event proceeded with the award ceremony for prolific reading families and an opening performance at 11:00 AM. A variety of programs for family visitors and children were also held, including cotton candy performance shows, one-person puppet shows, a family reading golden bell quiz, book magic shows, and children's musicals.

In the library auditorium, a book concert was held with novelist Jung Dae-geon, author of works such as "Torrent" and "GV Villain Go Tae-kyung." The author and readers shared the joy of reading by discussing the works and literature through books.

At the experience zone in the east parking lot, hands-on programs such as ballpoint pen decorating, booklet making, book-shaped keyring making, suncatcher bookmark making, and a family photo studio were operated. Book curation and experience/promotion programs from local related organizations were also prepared, creating a space where residents could come together centered around books and reading.

On the 2nd floor, Sangsangmaru, and the outdoor playground behind the children's library, side events such as a stamp tour, an outdoor library "Book Shelter," and "Sangsang Playground" continued. By combining outdoor reading and nature-based play, families and children were able to enjoy books and nature together.

Park Chan-woo, Director-General of Culture, Tourism and Sports, stated, "The GyeongBOOK Festival provided residents with diverse opportunities to enjoy arts and culture, serving as an occasion to vitalize the local reading community with the participation of local bookstores, related organizations, and residents." He added, "Going forward, we will continue to prepare reading culture events where all generations can communicate and empathize through books, raising the brand value of 'Reading Kingdom Gyeongbuk.'"
