Seoul, South Korea – LG Energy Solution (LGES), a leading global battery manufacturer, has announced a strategic partnership with Doosan Bobcat, a prominent player in the compact construction equipment industry. The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on the development of advanced battery pack solutions for compact construction machinery.

This move signifies LGES's proactive approach to diversifying its product portfolio in response to the current slowdown in the global electric vehicle (EV) market. By venturing into new sectors, LGES aims to leverage its battery technology and expertise to drive electrification across various industries.

Under the agreement, LGES will provide its high-performance cylindrical batteries for the electrification of Doosan Bobcat's flagship equipment. The collaboration will also focus on developing standardized battery pack solutions that can be seamlessly integrated into skid-steer loaders and excavators, with a particular emphasis on capturing market share in key regions like North America.

Furthermore, LGES and Doosan Bobcat have expressed their commitment to exploring opportunities to extend their partnership beyond construction equipment. This includes the potential electrification of grounds maintenance equipment, such as tractors, further expanding the scope of their collaboration.

Oh Yoo-seong, Senior Vice President of LGES, emphasized the company's dedication to leading the charge in electrifying diverse industries. "LGES will remain deeply committed to leading the challenge of electrifying various industries," he stated.

LGES's diversification efforts extend beyond construction equipment. The company has previously secured contracts to supply its batteries for SpaceX's Starship rockets and Bear Robotics' flagship robots, showcasing its versatility and technological prowess.

Other major Korean battery manufacturers are also pursuing diversification strategies. Samsung SDI recently signed an MOU with Hyundai Motor Group to co-develop customized batteries for robots, while SK On is focusing on expanding its presence in the global energy storage system (ESS) market, recognizing its potential as a new growth engine.
