The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS), under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, has issued recall orders for 49 products deemed unsafe after conducting thorough safety inspections. The affected products span across children's goods, electrical appliances, and household items.
Key Findings:
Children's Products: 21 products recalled, including toys, school supplies, children's umbrellas, and infant textiles, due to excessive levels of harmful substances like lead and phthalate plasticizers.
Electrical Appliances: 17 products recalled, including plugs, sockets, DC power supplies, LED lamps, and electric stands, posing fire and electric shock risks.
Household Goods: 11 products recalled, including electric scooters and various masks, due to exceeding safety standards for harmful substances.
Safety Measures:
KATS has taken immediate action to prevent the distribution of these hazardous products by:
Publishing recall information on the Product Safety Information Center and Consumer 24 websites.
Registering product details in the 'Hazardous Product Sales Blocking System,' which is linked to approximately 260,000 retail and online stores nationwide.
Consumer Advisory:
Kim Sang-mo, Director of the Product Safety Policy Bureau at KATS, emphasized the importance of consumer vigilance, especially with the new school semester approaching. "When purchasing children's products, always look for the KC certification mark," he advised.
KATS has committed to enhancing safety measures, planning to inspect around 2,800 children's products this year, an increase of 500 from the previous year. This initiative underscores the agency's dedication to safeguarding consumers, particularly children, from potentially harmful products.
