Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province—Following a devastating downpour that caused significant residential damage, Dangjin City has announced a new initiative to provide emergency housing support for flood victims. The city, in collaboration with South Chungcheong Province and the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), will offer public rental housing and cover rent for up to six months.

The policy, formalized through an emergency housing support agreement, aims to provide immediate and stable living conditions for residents whose homes were damaged or destroyed. Under the new plan, the entire deposit for public rental housing will be waived. Monthly rent will be split between LH, which will waive 50%, and the provincial and city governments, which will cover the remaining 50%. This measure effectively makes the emergency housing completely rent-free for eligible families.

Since the heavy rains on July 16, seven households have already applied for the program, totaling nine individuals. The city is currently in the process of allocating them to public rental units in Daejeok-dong, Chaeun-dong, and the Seokmun 1-5 complexes. Assignments are being made on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to a family's preferred location, though they may be assigned to another area if there is no availability.

This temporary housing support is available to all Dangjin residents who suffered full or partial destruction or flooding of their homes. Interested individuals can inquire and apply by contacting the Dangjin City Social Welfare Division at 041-350-3645.

A city official stated that the support will not end with housing placement. "We will provide follow-up measures, including assistance with applying for housing benefits, linking residents to other welfare programs, and giving advance notice before the support period ends," the official said.

The swift implementation of this program underscores the local government's commitment to helping its most vulnerable citizens recover from the natural disaster. By alleviating the financial burden of housing, Dangjin City is providing a crucial lifeline to families as they begin the long process of rebuilding their lives.
