Goyang, Gyeonggi Province – The Korea Aerospace University (KAU) has announced the opening of its restricted runway to the public for the second annual Runway Festival on November 7th and 8th, 2025. The event is positioned as a premier aviation leisure experience, a collaborative effort among civilian, government, and military sectors, along with aviation industry and leisure companies.

The festival is particularly noteworthy as it grants public access to the university's runway, an area typically closed off. Attendees can look forward to a diverse range of hands-on aviation and aerospace experiences.

A Festival of Flight and Future Opportunities

The core of the festival lies in engaging experiential programs designed to bring the aviation leisure industry to life:

Hot Air Balloon Rides - A rare opportunity for the general public, expected to be highly popular with families.
Aviation Leisure Challenges - Including an 'OX Quiz' and the 'Egg Drop Challenge.'
Flight Simulation - Hands-on experience with the latest simulators used by KAU's Department of Aeronautical Science and Flight Operations students.
Demonstration Flights - Featuring performances by national-level powered paragliding athletes.

Collaboration with Industry and Military

The event is significantly enhanced by parallel initiatives and partnerships:

Aviation Leisure Industry Job Fair - The inaugural fair, hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), will run concurrently, offering on-site interview opportunities for job seekers in the field.
'Strong Army Festival' - The Korean Army's 1st Corps will host a defense exhibition, showcasing military equipment such as electronics and armored vehicles. Attendees will have the chance to board various combat vehicles.
Helicopter Experience - The adjacent Army 11th Aviation Group will offer pre-registered guests the rare opportunity to board a helicopter, alongside dynamic aerial displays like Surion helicopter formation flights, highlighting the strong presence of the military.
Having significantly expanded its scale since its first year, the 2nd Runway Festival emphasizes collaboration between the university, local government, and the military, reinforcing its role as a major community-engagement event.

KAU President Huh Hee-young stated the event's purpose is to be a platform where the university, the aviation industry, and the local community can strengthen ties in the unique setting of a runway. He expressed his hope that the event will also inspire future leaders in the aviation sector.
