Santiago, Chile – Chilean pianist María Paz Santibáñez will present her groundbreaking performance, "Women's Resistance: A Concert for Piano and Pots," at the Nescafé de las Artes Theater in Santiago on November 25th.
This unconventional performance combines the piano with pots to artistically express the experiences of women during the 2019 Chilean social uprising, as well as the broader issue of violence against women worldwide. Inspired by the Chilean feminist performance group LasTesis' iconic "Un violador en tu camino" (A rapist in your path), Santibáñez's composition "Vendajes" delivers a powerful message.
The concert features a diverse group of artists, including visual artists Aurora Gasull, Lorena Gilleruelo, and Lucrecia Novoa, whose video works will be showcased alongside the performance. The concert will also incorporate poetry by Leonel Lienlaf and music by Spanish composer Héctor Parra, creating a powerful synergy. Santibáñez herself has contributed to the piece by creating and performing her own video, elevating the overall impact of the performance.
Originally premiered in Paris in 2020, "Women's Resistance" has garnered international acclaim and has been performed in various countries. The piece, particularly the series of compositions titled "Impact," draws inspiration from testimonies of the Chilean protests, evoking deep emotions in the audience.
Beyond being a musical performance, this concert carries a significant social message about women's rights and equality. To reach a wider audience, an additional performance will be held at the Valparaíso Cultural Park on November 28th, coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
The unconventional combination of piano and pots serves as a powerful symbol of women's silenced voices. The sound of pots represents women's anger and resistance, while the piano conveys beauty and hope, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
"Women's Resistance: A Concert for Piano and Pots" is more than just a musical performance; it is a work of art that addresses pressing social issues. This concert aims to raise awareness about women's rights and inspire individuals to take action for social change.
