Dancer Nam Young-ho has hosted the ‘Koredish Festival’ to promote Korean culture for 10 years.

 

The 'Corrédish Festival', run by Korean dancer Nam Young-ho for 10 years in Montpellier, a city in southern France, is playing a big role in promoting Korean culture.

 

Ms. Nam settled in Montpellier in his mid-20s and has been working in a local dance company to promote Korean culture. The 'Corrédish Festival', which started in 2015 to mark the 130th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and France, aroused French people's interest in Korea by introducing various Korean cultures such as food, performances, exhibitions, and K-pop.

 

For the past 10 years, the Coredish Festival has been held successfully every year, presenting a variety of programs such as collaborative stages with French and Korean musicians and dancers, Korean traditional music performances, and Korean Wave cultural exhibitions. In particular, to mark the 10th anniversary this year, a special exhibition of Korean current affairs comics was held to introduce various aspects of Korean culture.

 

The successful hosting of the Coredish Festival greatly contributed to increasing local interest in Korean culture. Through the festival, interest in Korean food, drama, and music increased, and it also had an impact on the education field, such as the opening of Korean language classes in middle and high schools in the Montpellier area.

 

In order to ensure the continued growth of the Coredish Festival, Nam plans to change the name of the festival to 'Korean French Art Connection' starting next year and also change the program structure. We plan to break away from the existing method of running for a short period of time to a method of introducing various Korean contents throughout the year to promote Korean culture more in-depth.

 

Ms. Nam emphasized that securing a budget is important for the qualitative growth of the festival. He expressed his ambition, saying, “We need a lot of interest and support from the Korean government and private companies,” and “I want to promote Korean culture to the world through more diverse and rich programs.”

Beyond being a simple cultural event, the Coredish Festival plays an important role in promoting cultural exchange between Korea and France and contributing to the globalization of Korean culture.
