Lisbon, Portugal - Private healthcare provider Luz Saúde is expanding its reach in Portugal with the acquisition of a hospital and four clinics in the Algarve region.
The deal, which also includes healthcare units in Lisbon, Porto, and Covilhã, is currently awaiting approval from the Portuguese Competition Authority (AC). Luz Saúde, in a press release, stated that the acquisition was facilitated by an agreement with C2 MedCapital, the majority shareholder of the acquired units. The transaction is expected to be finalized in the first quarter of 2025.
Algarve Expansion:
The core of the acquisition is the Hospital de Loulé group, which encompasses the Hospital de Loulé itself and four clinics in the eastern Algarve region: Clínica do Plaza in Tavira, Centro Clínico de Almancil, Clínica Internacional de Vilamoura, and Clínica Internacional de Olhão.
Other Acquisitions:
Luz Saúde has also acquired a building under construction in Covilhã, along with Centro do Bebé, a pre- and post-partum center, in both Lisbon and Porto.
Portfolio Growth:
With these additions, Luz Saúde's portfolio will expand to nearly 40 healthcare units across Portugal. The company emphasized the strategic importance of this acquisition, stating that the acquired units, with a combined business volume exceeding €25 million, will enhance synergies within the Hospital da Luz network. This expansion will allow Luz Saúde to extend its healthcare services to the entire southern region of the country.
