Lima, Peru – Peru's tourism sector is experiencing a remarkable resurgence, with international visitor arrivals surging by 31.6% in the first 11 months of the year compared to the previous year. This robust growth has the country well on track to surpass its pre-pandemic tourism numbers.

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) reported that Peru welcomed 2,976,151 international tourists during this period, significantly closing the gap to the 4,371,000 visitors recorded in 2019. This positive trend is attributed to a combination of effective marketing strategies, improved infrastructure, and the country's diverse and captivating attractions.

Tourism has proven to be a vital economic driver for Peru, generating 1.3 million jobs across various sectors including hotels, travel agencies, and handicrafts. The industry's widespread impact is evident in the numerous businesses it supports, from restaurants and tour operators to museums and transportation services.

Minister Desilú León expressed optimism about the sector's continued growth, forecasting that domestic tourism alone would contribute 43.5 million trips, generating $6.367 billion in revenue.

While South America remains Peru's largest tourism market, it is Asia that has shown the most significant growth in recent years. Countries like China, Japan, and South Korea have experienced substantial increases in visitor numbers, fueled in part by the recent Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit hosted by Peru.

To further capitalize on this growth, Peru has signed tourism cooperation agreements with China and South Korea, aiming to facilitate information exchange, promote joint tourism projects, and attract more visitors from these key markets.

Peru's rich cultural heritage, stunning natural landscapes, and world-renowned cuisine continue to draw tourists from around the globe. As the country emerges from the pandemic, the tourism industry is poised to play an even more significant role in driving economic growth and development.
