Seoul, South Korea – The Korean Music Performance Industry Association (KMPA) has vehemently condemned the Gumi City government for abruptly canceling a concert by renowned singer Lee Seung-hwan. In a strongly worded statement released on [date], the association described the decision as a "disregard for the entire Korean music performance industry and popular culture arts."
The Gumi City government had previously stated that the concert was canceled due to concerns over public safety and the artist's refusal to sign a declaration promising to avoid making any politically charged remarks. However, the KMPA contends that these reasons are insufficient to justify the cancellation of a ticketed event that had already sold out.
"The city's decision to cancel the concert deprived countless fans of their eagerly anticipated cultural experience," the KMPA stated. "This is a clear violation of the public's right to enjoy cultural events."
The association further argued that the city's handling of the situation demonstrates a lack of respect for the arts industry. "The city claims to prioritize public safety, but they failed to present any concrete evidence of potential safety risks," the KMPA said. "By imposing a last-minute, unilateral demand for a declaration, the city essentially placed all the blame on the artist and the concert organizer."
The KMPA has called for the Gumi City government to issue a sincere apology to the affected fans and concert organizers, as well as provide adequate compensation for their losses. Additionally, the association urged the city to establish clear and transparent guidelines for future concert cancellations.
"We hope that this incident will serve as a catalyst for the development of more equitable and transparent policies regarding cultural events," the KMPA concluded.
