SEJONG — The vibrant community of Jongchon-dong in Sejong Special Self-Governing City successfully wrapped up its two-day local celebration, bringing residents together through a rich lineup of cultural performances, interactive hands-on booths, and athletic competitions.
The 2026 Jongchon Gajae Village Festival and Harmony Sports Competition took place from October 30 to 31 across the Jongchon-dong Complex Community Center and Jecheon-ddeul Neighborhood Park. Co-hosted by the Jongchon Comprehensive Social Welfare Center (Director Jeong Gi-ryong) and the Jongchon-dong Residents' Association (President Han Chang-su), the annual event was designed to foster local communication, unity, and community spirit among residents.
A Weekend of Festivities and Entertainment
The celebrations kicked off on the evening of October 30 with the "Gajae Village Romantic Busking" pre-festival event. The opening night featured lively and diverse performances by local kindergarten children, resident talent teams, and invited artists, setting an energetic tone for the weekend.
Festivities continued in full swing on October 31, offering an array of cultural performances, balloon artistry, magic shows, and a Hangeul-culture street performance that captivated audiences of all ages.
To engage families and visitors, organizers operated 22 distinct experiential booths offering activities such as DIY snack-making, AI laboratory experiences, and custom keychain crafting, providing a wealth of visual and interactive entertainment.
Sportsmanship and Youth Engagement
Alongside the park festivities, the Jongchon-dong Complex Community Center hosted the Harmony Sports Competition. Residents partook in cheerful athletic events—including color-card flipping, rubber-shoe throwing, and relay ladder races—followed by a lively prize giveaway raffle.
Meanwhile, at the outdoor basketball court in Jecheon-ddeul Neighborhood Park, local elementary, middle, and high school students gathered to compete in the Youth Street Basketball Tournament, adding a dynamic athletic edge to the community celebration.
Reflecting on the successful weekend, Jongchon-dong Mayor Lee Hyun-jung expressed deep gratitude to the local residents and event organizers.
"I extend my sincere thanks to all the residents and officials who came together to make this festival possible," Mayor Lee said. "We will continue to organize diverse cultural events where residents can connect and mingle, building a warm and vibrant local community."
