American pop sensation Taylor Swift has been named the second greatest pop star of the 21st century by Billboard.
The music publication revealed its list of the “Billboard’s Greatest Pop Stars of the 21st Century” on [date], placing Swift at number two. Billboard praised Swift for her "unprecedented success in terms of scale and scope" after transitioning from country music to pop.
The magazine highlighted Swift’s numerous achievements, including being the only artist to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year four times and having the second-most entries on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Billboard also noted Swift's continuous evolution as an artist, stating, "It’s rare for someone with nearly two decades in the business to still feel like they’re reaching new heights."
Billboard further praised Swift's impact on the music industry, stating, "At just 34 years old, her catalog has inspired universities around the world to analyze her lyrics with the same scrutiny as they would Wordsworth. And her business innovations, from negotiating fairer streaming rates with Spotify and Apple Music to re-releasing her old music as blockbuster albums, continue to reverberate throughout the industry."
While Billboard has yet to reveal the artist who claimed the top spot, music fans and critics widely speculate that it will be Beyoncé. This speculation is fueled by the fact that Beyoncé has not yet appeared on the list, and her immense influence on popular culture and music.
Billboard has been unveiling the list in reverse order since August, with artists like Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran, One Direction, Bruno Mars, BTS, Jay-Z, Miley Cyrus, Justin Timberlake, Eminem, and Usher previously announced.
The top ten also includes Adele, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Drake, and Rihanna at number three.
