Expanding cooperation beyond science and technology to include culture and arts… Official invitation to the Midnight Festival
On March 31st (local time), Daejeon Metropolitan City Mayor Lee Jang-woo visited the Granada City Hall in Spain and met with Granada Mayor Marifrán Carazo to renew the friendship agreement between the two cities and expand the scope of cooperation to the fields of culture and arts.
This agreement was made at the request of Granada City to Daejeon for renewal as the friendship agreement signed between the two cities in 2018 was about to expire.
Daejeon and Granada established a science and technology-based friendship city relationship in 2018, triggered by the attraction of South Korea's national large-scale research facility, the Rare Isotope Science Project (RAON), and Europe's particle accelerator related to nuclear fusion, the International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility - Demo Oriented Neutron Source (IFMIF-DONES), respectively.
Through this renewal of the agreement, the two cities will broaden the scope of exchange beyond science and technology to include culture and arts, and will expand cooperation centering on culture and arts for practical exchanges that citizens can experience.
Mayor Lee Jang-woo officially invited Mayor Marifrán to Daejeon's representative festival, the 'Daejeon 0 o'Clock Festival,' and proposed discussions for Granada's representative cultural content, the flamenco performance troupe, to participate in the festival.
Granada Mayor Marifrán Carazo emphasized, "Granada is preparing for designation as the 2031 EU Capital of Culture," and added, "We will actively consider expanding cultural exchanges with Daejeon's 0 o'Clock Festival."
Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo stated, "Culture is the most powerful force connecting cities," and affirmed, "Daejeon City supports Granada's bid to become the Capital of Culture. We have six municipal art troupes, and we will actively expand cultural exchanges, including dispatching them to Granada's festivals."
