Seoul, South Korea – The iconic Apgujeong Hyundai Apartment complex in Seoul is set for a major redevelopment, transforming into a towering skyscraper with over 2,600 residential units.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on November 26th that it had approved a redevelopment plan for the Apgujeong 2 district, which includes the Hyundai apartments. The new complex will have a maximum floor area ratio of 300% and will consist of 12 buildings with a total of 2,606 residential units, including 321 public housing units.

A notable feature of the redevelopment plan is the building height. The tallest building will reach a height of 250 meters, similar to the Yeouido 63 Building. However, to maintain the area's aesthetic appeal, buildings near the Han River and Hyundai High School will be limited to 20 to 39 stories.

The redevelopment plan also includes a variety of public amenities, such as a public walkway connecting the complex to the Han River Park, a community center, a children's playground, a library, a daycare center, a swimming pool, and a multi-purpose gymnasium. These facilities will be open to the public, fostering a sense of community.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government aims to expedite the redevelopment process, with the goal of finalizing the construction plan and commencing construction as soon as possible.

In addition to the Apgujeong 2 district, the city council also approved redevelopment plans for several other areas, including the Seocho Jinheung Apartment complex, the Bangbae Shin Samho Apartment complex, and the Seongsu Strategic Redevelopment Zone.

These redevelopment projects are expected to significantly reshape Seoul's urban landscape and provide new housing options for residents. However, concerns have been raised about the potential impact on traffic, infrastructure, and the overall character of the neighborhoods.
