Jeju City, South Korea – The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, under the leadership of Governor Oh Young-hoon, has announced the selection of 34 additional businesses as "Resource Circulation Excellence Businesses" for their active participation in the disposable cup deposit system. This follows the initial selection of 85 businesses in July under the "Jeju Disposable Product Reduction Ordinance." Jeju is continuously seeking new participating businesses through ongoing applications to expand the culture of resource circulation.
The newly selected businesses will receive customized operational supplies worth approximately 600,000 won. In addition to the initial support items such as garbage bags, deposit labels, and electric label applicators, additional items tailored to the needs of each business will also be provided. Support items may include detergents, signage, scales, drip pots, cup washers, and other various items that can contribute to the efficient operation of the business.
Furthermore, businesses that independently operate tumbler discount systems to reduce disposable cup usage will receive an additional 300,000 won worth of supplies. Through this, the province aims to encourage voluntary participation along with the faithful implementation of the deposit system, thereby contributing to the establishment of a sustainable resource circulation system.
Jeju will continue to accept applications for new excellence businesses on an ongoing basis and will include the applied businesses in the support target after quarterly evaluations.
"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the businesses that are leading the way in creating a circular economy society by participating in the disposable cup deposit system despite the difficult environment," said Kang Ae-suk, Director of the Jeju Climate and Environment Bureau. "We will continue our efforts to reduce disposable products and establish a culture of resource circulation by continuously expanding support for participating businesses."
