HELSINKI & ZURICH – European paytech giant Nexi has broadened its Tap to Pay on iPhone service, now enabling merchants in Switzerland and Finland to accept contactless payments directly through their iPhones. This expansion follows successful rollouts in Italy, Germany, Austria, and Sweden in 2023, reinforcing Nexi's commitment to simplifying payment processes across Europe.
The innovative Tap to Pay on iPhone feature allows businesses to accept all forms of contactless payments, including credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets, using only an iPhone and Nexi’s SoftPOS functionality within the MyPayments app. This eliminates the need for traditional payment terminals, offering a cost-effective and streamlined solution for merchants.
Suvi Ruoppa, Country General Manager of Nets Finland, part of Nexi Group, highlighted the benefits of this technology, stating, “The activation of Nexi SoftPOS on iPhone in Finland and Switzerland enables more merchants to offer customers enhanced flexibility and choice at the point of sale. This creates an easier and more convenient shopping experience for consumers, creating additional revenue opportunities for businesses of all sizes.”
In Switzerland, David Gebhardt, Country General Manager of Nexi Switzerland, emphasized the accessibility of the solution for small businesses. “With Nexi SoftPOS on iPhone, we are providing a simple and cost-effective payment solution for small businesses in Switzerland – especially for those who have not accepted card payments before,” he said. “This is particularly beneficial for merchants such as takeaways, taxis, and independent service providers, where mobility and ease of use is key. By eliminating the need for additional hardware, we are making it easier than ever for merchants to accept contactless payments.”
Nexi’s SoftPOS solution offers an affordable, straightforward, and secure way to accept digital payments, irrespective of the cash register's location. The system also provides real-time transaction management and digital receipt issuance, enhancing flexibility and mobility for businesses.
This expansion underscores Nexi’s ongoing efforts to innovate and simplify payment solutions for merchants across Europe. The company has plans to further extend the availability of Tap to Pay on iPhone in other European markets. Notably, in February, Nexi launched WeChat Pay in Switzerland, strategically timed for the Chinese New Year celebrations, demonstrating its commitment to catering to diverse customer needs.
