Over 650 attendees, including disabled organizations... Efforts to provide productive welfare through employment opportunities for persons with disabilities

Chungnam Province held the "8th Chungnam Disabled Persons' Vocational Rehabilitation Day" commemoration ceremony on October 15 at Cheongpodeet Sunset in Taean to boost the will for self-reliance among persons with disabilities.

Marking "Disabled Persons' Vocational Rehabilitation Day," designated annually on October 30, the event was hosted and organized by the Chungnam Association of Disabled Persons' Vocational Rehabilitation Facilities. It brought together approximately 650 participants, including Lee Hyuk-se, Head of the province's Disability Policy Division; representatives from the Vocational Rehabilitation Facilities Association and the Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities; as well as users and workers of vocational rehabilitation facilities.

The event proceeded in the order of a commemoration ceremony—featuring commendations for persons of merit—followed by an empowerment camp. During the award ceremony, provincial governor commendations were presented to five public officials and private individuals who contributed to the vocational rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.

The empowerment camp provided a venue for participants to communicate and harmonize while enjoying recreational activities such as sports and Taean beach trekking. Additional sideline events, including exhibition and PR booths for products made by persons with disabilities from various facilities, also received enthusiastic responses.

In a congratulatory video message, Governor Park Soo-hyun encouraged workers and disabled participants, stating, "The true meaning of vocational rehabilitation is the core stepping stone of self-reliance that connects us to the world."

Lee Hyuk-se, Head of the Disability Policy Division, remarked, "We will continue to do our utmost to help persons with disabilities achieve economic independence and social participation through the active operation of vocational rehabilitation facilities."

Meanwhile, as the paradigm of disability welfare shifts from healthcare-centered rehabilitation to community-centered independent living, the province is discovering and implementing policies to vitalize vocational rehabilitation for persons with disabilities. These include supporting the operation of vocational rehabilitation facilities, creating financially supported jobs, and strengthening the preferential purchasing system for products produced by individuals with severe disabilities.
