Seoul Metropolitan Government has announced an expansion of its Citizen Safety Insurance program, aimed at providing financial stability to residents in the event of disasters and accidents. Effective immediately, the program will include increased coverage limits and new benefits.
The Citizen Safety Insurance is an automatic enrollment system that provides financial assistance to Seoul residents (including registered foreign nationals) who experience unforeseen safety incidents, natural disasters, or social emergencies. No separate enrollment is required.
Key enhancements to the program include:
New Coverage for Social Disaster Aftereffects: A new provision has been added to provide up to 10 million KRW for aftereffects resulting from social disasters, extending support to injured individuals in addition to those who have died.
Increased Natural Disaster Aftereffects Coverage: Recognizing the growing frequency of severe weather events, the coverage limit for aftereffects caused by natural disasters such as typhoons and floods has been doubled from 5 million KRW to 10 million KRW.
Improved Claim Process: To streamline the claims process, a new call-back system has been implemented, ensuring that residents can easily access assistance and file claims.
Coordination with District Insurance: To maximize efficiency and prevent redundant coverage, the city has adjusted overlapping benefits with district-level resident safety insurance programs, ensuring comprehensive protection for all residents.
Residents must file insurance claims within three years of the accident or aftereffects diagnosis date. Claims can be submitted directly to the city's contracted insurance providers. For incidents occurring in 2025, contact the Korea Local Finance Association (☎ 1577-5939), and for incidents between 2023 and 2024, contact KB Insurance (☎ 1522-3556).
This expansion of the Citizen Safety Insurance program reflects Seoul's commitment to safeguarding its residents and providing essential support during challenging times.
