SEOUL — The Seoul Metropolitan Government and local administrative districts have entered a state of heightened vigilance as the global pop sensation BTS prepares to hold a historic comeback performance at Gwanghwamun Square. The event, scheduled for March 21, 2026, marks the group’s return to the domestic stage after a hiatus of approximately three years and nine months, prompting a massive mobilization of city resources to ensure public safety and logistical efficiency.

According to municipal authorities and the Seoul Metro, a series of emergency coordination meetings commenced this week following the city’s decision to grant conditional approval for the event, titled "BTS 2026 Comeback Show @ Seoul." The decision was reached during the first Gwanghwamun Square Advisory Committee meeting of the year. While the official application by HYBE, the group’s agency, accounts for a controlled audience of 18,000, internal projections suggest that the total congregation of spectators could surge toward 200,000, given the group’s immense global influence and the open nature of the venue.

Strategic Safety and Traffic Management
The municipal government has mandated rigorous supplementary measures as a prerequisite for final approval. These include:

Crowd Dispersion: Implementing staggered exit strategies for performers and spectators to prevent bottlenecks.
Transport Logistics: Coordinating with Seoul Metro and bus services to mitigate severe traffic congestion in the downtown core.
Inter-agency Cooperation: A final safety management blueprint is expected to be ratified on February 24 during a comprehensive committee meeting involving the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and the Fire & Disaster Headquarters.

Expansion to Seoul Plaza
In anticipation of an unprecedented influx of international tourists and members of "ARMY," the group’s dedicated fandom, HYBE has reportedly proposed utilizing Seoul Plaza (located in front of City Hall) for a secondary event accommodating an additional 30,000 people. The city is currently reviewing the feasibility of this proposal, viewing it as a potential "fan zone" to alleviate the density at Gwanghwamun Square.

A Historic Milestone
This event represents the first time a single artist has been granted permission to hold a solo concert at Gwanghwamun Square, a site traditionally reserved for civic gatherings and national festivals. "The symbolic weight of BTS performing at the heart of the capital cannot be understated," a city official remarked. "However, our absolute priority remains the seamless management of public order and the safety of every citizen and visitor."

As the "March 21st Comeback" draws closer, the eyes of the world turn to Seoul, testing the city's ability to host a cultural event of this magnitude in its most iconic public space.
