SEOUL — South Korea is dispatching a government delegation led by Vice Minister of the Interior and Safety Kim Min-jae to international summits in Estonia and France this week to share the nation’s advanced digital governance and artificial intelligence (AI) experiences.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) on November 3, the delegation will participate in the Digital Nations Ministerial Meeting in Estonia from November 4 to 10, followed by the OECD E-Leaders Meeting in France.
As a founding member of Digital Nations, South Korea has consistently played an active role in shaping global policies regarding digital administration and AI.
The Digital Nations ministerial gathering, chaired by Estonia this year, is scheduled for November 5 in Tallinn under the theme "Agentic Government: Beyond Expectations to Real Impact."
During the meeting, Vice Minister Kim will engage with international ministers and high-ranking officials to discuss key agendas, including:
*Government innovation and accountability using agentic AI
*Strengthening digital sovereignty
*Securing the reliability of digital identity frameworks
Kim will present South Korea’s relevant policies and past achievements while exploring avenues for future international cooperation. A notable highlight of this year's conference is the expected accession of Brazil—Latin America's largest economy and a strategic partner to South Korea—as a new member. MOIS noted that Brazil’s admission is anticipated to expand public-sector AI cooperation into the Latin American region.
Following the Estonia conference, the delegation will travel to Paris, France, to attend the OECD E-Leaders Meeting on November 9–10. This year holds special significance as it marks the 30th anniversary of South Korea joining the OECD.
In his keynote address, Vice Minister Kim will outline South Korea's policy direction and practical experiences in integrating AI within the public sector. He will also reaffirm the nation’s commitment to collaborating with the OECD to advance global public AI initiatives.
"South Korea is a recognized leader in digital government and AI, having achieved top-tier recognition in the OECD Digital Government Index," Kim stated. "Building on our proven track record, we aim to propose new directions for governmental innovation in the AI era and lead international policy discussions and cooperative efforts."
