Jungang-ro and Daejong-ro to Be Fully Controlled… Comprehensive Measures to Minimize Citizen Inconvenience

Daejeon City announced on July 7 that it has finalized its traffic measures to minimize congestion ahead of the '2025 Daejeon 0 O'Clock Festival,' which will be held from August 8 to 16. The city held a 'Final Report Session for Traffic Control Service' in the city hall conference room.

The report session was attended by 22 members of the Daejeon City Festival Traffic Measures Council, comprising traffic experts and working-level officials from related organizations and groups. They conducted a final review of the traffic control plans that have been under consideration since April.

During the festival period, Daejeon City will implement traffic control in downtown areas where a high concentration of visitors is expected. The controlled sections are Jungang-ro (approximately 1km from Daejeon Station to the former Chungnam Provincial Office) and a portion of Daejong-ro (from NC Department Store to Euneungjeongi Intersection). The control period will be from 5 AM on August 6 to midnight on August 17.

To minimize citizen inconvenience due to the controls and maintain smooth traffic flow, the city has established the following comprehensive traffic measures:

Key measures include: ▲ Adjustment and management of city bus detour routes ▲ Extension of subway operating hours and increased frequency ▲ Personnel deployment in traffic control zones ▲ Enhanced pre-festival public awareness campaigns ▲ Provision of convenient transportation for mobility-impaired individuals ▲ Management plans for public bicycles 'Tashu' and Personal Mobility (PM) devices ▲ Crackdown on illegal parking and unauthorized street vendors.

Notably, this year, new enhancements will be introduced to minimize on-site congestion, such as: operating the Kkumdori循环 train within the festival grounds, improving circular bus routes, securing large bus parking lots, and utilizing QR codes for on-site traffic guidance.

Furthermore, to strengthen pre-festival citizen notification, the city plans to actively promote controlled sections and detour routes in advance through the official city website, social media, bus stop electronic displays, and local broadcasts.

Nam Si-deok, Director General of Daejeon City's Transportation Bureau, stated, "While traffic controls in the city center may cause some inconvenience, they are unavoidable measures to ensure a safe and orderly festival. We kindly ask for the active cooperation and understanding of our citizens."
