Seoul, South Korea – South Korea is experiencing a surge in domestic tourism, with travel bookings for January and February increasing by 25% compared to the same period last year. This surge is attributed to the recent announcement of an additional public holiday on January 27th, which is expected to create a longer holiday weekend and boost travel demand.
Modotour, a major South Korean travel agency, reported a significant increase in domestic travel bookings following the holiday announcement. In response to the growing demand, the agency has launched a special promotion featuring a variety of domestic travel packages.
The promotion is categorized into four main themes: bus tours, train tours, Jeju Island, and Ulleungdo Island. Each category offers a range of options, including premium packages, air-and-hotel combos, day trips, and winter trekking tours. In particular, winter trekking tours have gained popularity among younger travelers and couples. Popular destinations for these tours include Woljeongsa Temple in Pyeongchang, Daedunsan Mountain in Wanju, Seoraksan Mountain in Yangyang, and the summit of Hallasan Mountain in Jeju.
For families, Modotour has curated a "Winter Festival Best 4" package that highlights regional winter festivals. This package includes visits to the Gongju Chestnut Festival in Chungnam, the Hwacheon Sanyeo Ice Festival in Gangwon, the Pocheon Sledding Festival in Gyeonggi, and the Taebaeksan Snow Festival in Gangwon. These packages provide opportunities for families to experience local festivals and attractions.
"Considering the growing trend of domestic travel planning following the announcement of the additional public holiday, we have prepared a diverse range of travel packages," said a representative from Modotour. "We plan to continue offering various themed packages with attractive benefits throughout the seasons."
