The Chungbuk Cultural Foundation (CEO Kim Kyung-sik) announced that its ongoing regional cultural initiative, "Nooks and Crannies in Chungbuk: UP GO! Let's Play," will continue to bring vibrant arts and cultural programs across the province throughout November. Launched in April across six culturally underserved regions—Danyang, Goesan, Boeun, Okcheon, Yeongdong, and Jincheon—the project aims to expand everyday cultural access for local residents.
Operating primarily on Wednesdays or during the final week of each month, these programs reflect regional characteristics and the specific needs of local communities. Rather than merely consuming performances or exhibitions, residents have actively engaged in learning and artistic creation. Since October, these efforts have culminated in major "outcome-sharing" programs—performances and exhibitions designed to celebrate and share community achievements with the broader public.
Highlights of Recent and Upcoming Regional Programs
In October, local communities showcased projects rooted in their unique regional identities and stories. In Danyang, residents presented "The Story of Jangwonbong Salt Jar," a creative play inspired by local folklore, performed on an outdoor stage in front of the Daedaeri Village Hall. In Okcheon, participants of a theater workshop led by veteran actor Ahn Suk-hwan staged an original play capturing the distinct charm of their hometown. Yeongdong also hosted showcase performances celebrating months of collaborative learning.
Building on this momentum, the focus shifts to Boeun, Jincheon, and Goesan in November:
*Boeun: On November 4 at 11:00 AM, the “Together Asia Meal Outcome-Sharing Event” will take place at Baetdeul Park. Reflecting months of learning about and preparing the culinary arts of China, Japan, and Vietnam, the event will feature multicultural food tasting, cultural performances, traditional games, and tteokmae-chigi (traditional rice cake pounding). Highlights include magic shows, violin performances, and traditional pungmul (folk music and dance), creating an immersive cultural exchange.
*Jincheon: On November 25, residents and workers from the innovation city who have spent the year learning musical instruments and choir singing will gather at the Complex Innovation Center Auditorium to share their artistic journey.
*Goesan: On November 28, the “Goesan-gun Residents Outcome-Sharing Event” will be held at the Goesan Culture and Arts Center. Featuring a resident orchestra performance, youth-composed tracks, and an art exhibition, the event will also present video logs of local village explorations and film screenings. Combined with guest performances by regional arts groups, the festival aims to foster cross-generational harmony and community celebration.
*Danyang: On December 2, the “A Special Day Woven into Daily Life Outcome-Sharing Event” will showcase pottery crafted with local ceramic artists, poetry lectures, and outreach programs like hand-massage training and longevity photography sessions, accompanied by a public art exhibition and acoustic guitar performances.
Additionally, the Chungbuk Cultural Foundation’s province-wide program, "Star-Gazing Picnic," will host its final event on November 4 at 6:00 PM at the Boeun County Library Outdoor Plaza. Attendees can relax on outdoor camping chairs and beanbags, enjoying magic shows, violin performances, and jazz concerts while stargazing before the winter cold sets in.
Foundation CEO Kim Kyung-sik remarked, "This year has been deeply meaningful as residents took the initiative to learn, create, and shape local arts and culture together since April. We remain committed to narrowing the cultural gap between regions and ensuring that residents can enjoy culture right in their daily lives. We invite everyone to show their interest and participate in the diverse cultural programs happening across the region this November."
